End of Life Care… Have You Planned For it?
These are scary times. None of us knows when the COVID-19 virus (or other illness) will hit us personally. It’s more important than ever to have advanced directives which will direct your wishes and desires for your end-of-life care during times when you might not have a voice. If you have not yet done this very important task, do it sooner rather than later.
The best person to help you with this task is an Estate Planning or Elder Care Attorney. Remember, if you don’t create an end of life directive for yourself while you are physically and cognitively able to do do, someone else will be directing that care … and it might not be the care you would have chosen for yourself.
If you don’t have access to such an attorney or lack the resources to pay for one, there are other ways to do such planning; be sure to have any online documents notarized:
MyDirectives.com - Create a state-of-the-art advanced health care plan which can include a personal video of your wishes and desires.
FinalExitNetwork.org - Create a supplemental advanced health care plan specific for persons living with dementia.
FiveWishes.org
Willing.com
Putitinwriting.com
Some states offer a registry where you can register your Advanced Health Care Planning documents for easy and universal access when needed.
